Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Bulgaria in 2016, DSK Bank was the largest mortgage lender, followed by UniCredit Bulbank and Eurobank Bulgaria.
DSK Bank's mortgage loans reached BGN 2,132 mil, down from BGN 2,288 mil compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s mortgage loans reached an all time high of BGN 2,629 mil in 2011 and an all time low of BGN 592 mil in 2005.
At the end of 2016, mortgage loans represented 33.5% of DSK Bank's loan book.
Comparing DSK Bank with its closest peers, UniCredit Bulbank's mortgage loans amounted to BGN 1,656 mil at the end of 2016, Eurobank Bulgaria operated with BGN 1,499 mil mortgage loans and United Bulgarian Bank had a mortgage loan book of BGN 921 mil at the end of 2016.
Bulgarian banking sector provided mortgage loans of BGN 8.80 mil in 2016, up 1.79% when compared to the previous year. As a result, the top ranked company - DSK Bank accounted for 24.2% of the sector’s mortgage loans in 2016. The top 3 companies hold a 60.1% share while the five largest firms some 79.5% in 2016.
