Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Romania in 2016, Alpha Bank Romania was the best capitalised bank, followed by Banca Commerciala Romana and Piraeus Bank Romania.

Alpha Bank Romania's capital adequacy ratio reached 22.1%, down from 23.6% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s capital ratio hit an all time high of 35.1% in 2005 and an all time low of 12.9% in 2010.
