Based on a comparison of 13 banks in Slovakia in 2016, Sberbank Slovakia had the highest share of bad loans, followed by OTP Banka Slovakia and Postova Banka.

Sberbank Slovakia's non-performing loans reached 14.7% of total loans at the end of 2016, up from 12.2% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 14.7% in 2016 and an all time low of 2.04% in 2005.

Provision coverage amounted to 11.9% at the end of 2016, up from 9.05% compared to a year earlier.

Comparing Sberbank Slovakia with its closest peers, OTP Banka Slovakia operated at the end of 2016 with NPL ratio of 11.9% and provision coverage of 54.4%, Postova Banka with 11.7% and 60.1% and Privatbanka had 10.1% of bad loans covered with 46.5% by provisions at the end of 2016.

Non-performing loans of the whole Slovakia’s banking sector amounted to 4.52% of total loans in 2016, down from 5.44% when compared to the last year.
