Based on a comparison of 70 countries in 2014, China ranked the highest in mushroom and truffle production with 7,626,791 tonnes followed by Italy and USA. On the other end of the scale was Luxembourg with 5.00 tonnes, Brunei with 13.0 tonnes and Hong Kong with 37.5 tonnes.
Total mushroom and truffle production reached 9,010,216 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 10.2 % less than in the previous year and 41.4 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total mushroom and truffle production reached an all time high of 9,926,966 tonnes in 2013 and an all time low of 495,127 tonnes in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 5.63 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, China, accounted for 84.6 % of mushroom and truffle production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 96.1 % share while the ten largest countries some 108 % in 2014.
