Government expenditure as a share of GDP reached 31.9 % in 2018 in Tajikistan, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 10.6 % less than in the previous year.
Historically, government expenditure as a share of GDP in Tajikistan reached an all time high of 38.9 % in 2016 and an all time low of 16.8 % in 1998. When compared to Tajikistan's main peers, government expenditure as a share of GDP in Afghanistan amounted to 28.9 %, 32.9 % in China, 33.1 % in Kyrgyzstan and 26.0 % in Uzbekistan in 2018.
Tajikistan has been ranked 77th within the group of 172 countries we follow in terms of government expenditure as a share of GDP, 13 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
Government expenditure (or spending) includes all government consumption and investment but excludes transfer payments made by a state.
