Historically, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in Mali reached an all time high of 55.7 % in 2008 and an all time low of 13.1 % in 1968. When compared to Mali's main peers, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in Algeria amounted to 48.5 %, 54.9 % in Burkina Faso, 76.0 % in Mauritania and 38.9 % in Niger in 2017.
