Historically, total meat production in Bulgaria reached an all time high of 799 kt in 1989 and an all time low of 195 kt in 2003. When compared to Bulgaria's main peers, total meat production in Greece amounted to 383 kt, 1,134 kt in Romania, 533 kt in Serbia and 3,348 kt in Turkey in 2016.
