Sberbank Slovakia's non-performing loans reached 14.7% of total loans at the end of 2016, up from 12.2% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 14.7% in 2016 and an all time low of 2.04% in 2005.
Provision coverage amounted to 65.0% at the end of 2016, up from 53.9% compared to a year earlier.
The bank created loan loss provisions worth of 2.20% of average loans in 2016. That's compared to 1.96% of loans the bank put aside to its cost on average in the last five years.
When compared to bank's main peers, VUB Banka operated at the end of 2016 with NPL ratio of 4.90% and provision coverage of 55.0%, Slovenska Sporitelna with 4.95% and 65.3% respectively and Tatra banka had 3.51% of bad loans covered with 66.6% by provisions at the end of 2016.
