The bank went public in 1995, and the share of the state in the bank capital decreased to one preferential golden share, which also eliminated shortly thereafter. OTP Bank Nyrt is a Hungary-based commercial bank. The bank remains the largest universal bank in Hungary with a roughly a 30% market share in retail banking. Following years of aggressive expansion, however, the OTP Group currently operates in 8 countries of the CEE region, namely in Slovakia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, Croatia, Ukraine, Montenegro and Russia. In 2012, OTP Group had more than 36,000 employees and served approximately 13 mil clients through over 1,400 branches. The bank went public in 1995, and the share of the state in the bank capital decreased to one preferential golden share, which also eliminated shortly thereafter. OTP has a high free float accounting for two thirds of its shares. Among the main minority shareholders are one of the Forbes billionaire Megdet Rahimkulov, Hungarian MOL and French Groupama.

OTP Group employed 32,335 persons in 2016, up 1.96% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank's workforce hit an all time high of 37,487 persons in 2013 and an all time low of 8,137 in 2000.

Average cost reached CZK 493,386 per month per employee, 0.023% less than a year ago. This figure was CZK 331,285 per month some 10 years ago.

When compared to the nearest peers, K&H Bank had 3,654 employees with average cost of CZK 714,491 per person a month, Budapest Bank operated with 2,914 people (and CZK 717,828 per employee) and Erste Bank Hungary had 2,873 employees in 2016 with CZK 2,873 cost per head.

FHB Bank's non-performing loans reached 26.8% of total loans at the end of 2016, up from 21.8% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 26.8% in 2016 and an all time low of 0.278% in 2003.

Provision coverage amounted to 24.7% at the end of 2016, down from 28.6% compared to a year earlier.

When compared to the nearest peers, CIB Bank operated at the end of 2016 with NPL ratio of 24.7% and provision coverage of 61.9%, OTP Group with 14.7% and 96.8% and Budapest Bank had 14.7% of bad loans covered with 92.2% by provisions at the end of 2016.

Non-performing loans of the whole Hungary’s banking sector amounted to 5.18% of total loans in 2016, down from 6.25% when compared to the last year.
