Based on a comparison of 11 banks in Poland, PKO BP produced the highest net profit in the 2Q2016, followed by Bank Zachodni WBK and Pekao SA.

PKO BP made a net profit of PLN 874 mil, up 36.8% when compared to the previous quarter and up 24.3% when compared to the same period of last year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of PLN 1,017 mil in 3Q2011 and an all time low of PLN 306 mil in 4Q2004. The average profit in the last five years amounted to PLN 816 mil.

The bank generated its shareholders an average return on equity of 12.9% in the last five years with maximum at 19.1% and minimum at 5.94%.

When compared to the nearest peers, Bank Zachodni WBK generated a net profit of PLN 723 mil with ROE of 13.9% in 2Q2016, Pekao SA netted PLN 691 mil (ROE of 11.9%) and ING Bank Slaski announced a net profit of PLN 407 mil implying ROE of 15.2%.

Net profit of the Poland’s banking sector amounted to PLN 30,846 mil in 2Q2016, up 127% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - PKO BP accounted for 2.83% of the sector’s net profit in 2Q2016. The top 3 companies held a 7.42% share while the five largest firms some 9.99% in 2Q2016.

PKO BP reported total revenues of PLN 2,609 mil, up 2.35% when compared to the previous quarter and up 4.87% when compared to the same period of last year. Historically, the bank’s revenues containing of interest, fee and other non-interest income reached an all time high of PLN 3,054 mil in 4Q2013 and an all time low of PLN 1,368 mil in 3Q2004. The average revenue in the last five years amounted to PLN 2,667 mil.

Bank's total revenues accounted for 3.83% of total assets in 2Q2016, up from 3.89% a year earlier.

When compared to the nearest peers, Bank Zachodni WBK generated total revenues of PLN 2,076 mil, or 5.84% of assets in 2Q2016, Pekao SA operated with PLN 2,013 mil total income, or 4.85% revenue margin and mBank produced total income worth PLN 1,203 mil, or 3.74% of assets.

Polish banking sector generated total revenues of PLN 58,684 mil in 2Q2016, up 25.3% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - PKO BP accounted for 4.45% of the sector’s total income in 2Q2016. The top 3 companies held a 11.4% share while the five largest firms some 15.4% in 2Q2016.

PKO BP reported total fee income of PLN 667 mil, up 4.90% when compared to the previous quarter and down 12.0% when compared to the same period of last year. Historically, the bank’s fee income reached an all time high of PLN 818 mil in 4Q2010 and an all time low of PLN 279 mil in 1Q2005.

When compared to the nearest peers, Pekao SA generated total fee income of PLN 619 mil, Bank Zachodni WBK operated with PLN 471 mil fee income and ING Bank Slaski produced total fees worth PLN 258 mil.

PKO BP loans reached PLN 191,515 mil, up 1.94% when compared to the previous quarter and up 3.33% when compared to the same period of last year. Historically, the bank’s loans reached an all time high of PLN 191,515 mil in 2Q2016 and an all time low of PLN 36,724 mil in 2Q2004.

When compared to the nearest peers, Pekao SA customer loans amounted to PLN 116,437 mil, Bank Zachodni WBK operated with PLN 100,480 mil loans and mBank had a loan portfolio of PLN 80,775 mil.

Polish banking sector provided total customer loans of CZK 2,887 bil in 2Q2016, up 6.71% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - PKO BP accounted for 6.63% of the sector’s loans in 2Q2016. The top 3 companies held a 14.1% share while the five largest firms some 19.7% in 2Q2016.
